How To Use Carpet Samples To Help You Buy The Best Carpet

Carpet samples should play an integral part in your decision making process when you purchase carpet for your home. Always remember, carpet is an investment that you are making in your home, and as such is a very big decision. In addition, because the cost of carpet is so high, you should take extra care before you decide which type of carpet is right for you.

Here are a couple of issues that a good carpet sample will help you see (and thus not be a problem) before you purchase and install your carpet:

Quality of the carpet

This is probably the most important factor when it comes to choosing carpeting for your home, and it’s also one that is virtually impossible to measure with seeing an actual carpet sample. Looking at carpet samples online will only do you so much good (fortunately you can order such samples online for relatively cheap). Things to look for in quality of the carpet include: carpet density, twist construction (the tighter the better), and durability.

Actual look of the carpet

Looks online can be deceiving, and they can also be deceiving in certain lighting situations. When you are at the carpet store, ask them for free carpet samples of the ones you like best. Explain to them that you want to take them to your home and see what they will look like under your lighting conditions. Be careful – what appears one color in the brightly lit store might appear completely different once installed in your home.

Stain Protection

Carpeting samples can also help you get a good idea what kind of stain protection you will get out of the carpet. By taking several different carpets samples home and testing them with different ‘stains’ (spaghetti, baby food, soda pop, etc.) you can learn two things. One, you will learn how well the carpet hides the stain because, let’s be honest, you probably won’t get to every stain every single time. Two, you can also purchase some anti-carpet stain product and try it out on the different sample carpet pieces.

As you can see, it can be very beneficial to take home with you a few sample carpet pieces and test them in your home before purchase. While this may seem like a tedious task, it may save you thousands of dollars in the future in addition to potential time savings. And, most importantly, you will get the carpet that you truly want and make your home feel the way you want it to.
